Two of the most fascinating architectural features of Baltersan Castle with reconstruction drawings by James Brown showing what they may originally have looked like. The ingleneuk seat and its neighbouring window were sketched by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1895.

Inventory 1559 (WORD document)

This is an astonishing record of the whole contents of a castle in Ayr belonging to the Hamilton family from Sanquhar, Dumfries-shire which had been invaded by the Wallaces of Craigie; listing furniture, furnishings, clothing and other personal items, all with prices and quantities. It gives an indication of what could have been in 16th century Baltersan, albeit on a smaller scale.
