Golf

With over 40 courses in the Ayrshire and Arran area, golfers are spoiled for choice. They range from municipal courses with very modest fees to the famed links and the Open Championship venues of Turnberry and Royal Troon (pictured above by Alister Firth). 20 of these are within 20 minutes drive of Baltersan Castle, the nearest being just one mile away (a short drive?) in Maybole.

The Isle of Arran has seven courses, one for every 640 residents.

While St Andrews may be the world headquarters of golf, Ayrshire is the birthplace of Open Golf, the first ever championship was played at Prestwick.

2009 OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP was at TURNBERRY.
