Basketwork

As a practical, renewable resource, few things can beat willow. It is simple, light yet strong, malleable and beautiful. What greater delight can there be for the craft worker to grow their own materials, then fashion them into decorative and functional items?

Lise Bech, a Dane living in the uplands of east Ayrshire does just that. Her works are sinewy sculptures that would grace any home from humble cottage to stately castle. Lise embodies the "hands-on" spirit of the Baltersan restoration.

Willow of course, has been used for centuries in creating shelters, constructing hurdles, in the production of charcoal and the manufacture of a wide variety of containers. We foresee many applications for willow at Baltersan.
