⬥ The Story ⬥

One Castle. One Purpose.

Baltersan 1584 is the commercial brand — whisky, tartan, and handcrafted Scottish goods — created to generate the resources needed to fulfil a greater purpose. Omnia Mutantur, Nihil Interit is the castle itself and its legacy: the ancient identity of Baltersan, the motto that has endured for centuries, and the vision of what this place can become — a school of arts, music, and traditional crafts, rooted in Ayrshire.

A Castle Reborn

Artist's impression of the restored Baltersan Castle — the future cultural hub

The vision · Baltersan Castle restored

Every bottle of Baltersan 1584 whisky and every length of tartan serves a purpose greater than commerce. The ultimate ambition is the restoration of Baltersan Castle — and its rebirth as a school of arts, music, and traditional crafts, open to the community.

The work of rebuilding will itself be a teaching programme — stonemasonry and traditional crafts taught on site, creating skilled local employment in Maybole and Ayrshire. The castle's restoration is not just a cultural goal — it is a jobs programme.

In the near term, a temporary structure is planned in front of the castle — a welcoming space for visitors to explore the gardens, taste the whisky, discover the tartan, and attend craft laboratories. The grounds as a living destination, even before the castle itself is rebuilt.

Why Invest in Baltersan 1584

Baltersan 1584 is not a startup looking for a lifeline. It is a fully-formed brand — with registered trademarks, ★★★★★-rated whisky in market across three leading platforms, a real Scottish castle owned outright, and a charity established to hold the mission — looking for the right partners to scale what has already been proven.

I

Authentic Provenance

A real 16th-century Scottish castle, three registered UK trademarks, and a whisky already rated ★★★★★ on Masters of Malt. The story cannot be invented — it was inherited in 1584.

II

Premium Whisky Brand

Single cask Scotch whisky is one of the fastest-growing segments in spirits. Baltersan 1584 already has product in market across leading platforms — Hard to Find Whisky, Masters of Malt, and whisky auctions — with two releases and a bespoke label service generating revenue.

III

Multiple Revenue Streams

Whisky across three tiers (10yo accessible · limited single cask · 35yo+ ultra-rare XO) · registered tartan · bespoke label commissions · branded merchandise · e-commerce · future distillery. The brand is designed to grow across price points and geographies, not depend on a single product.

IV

Protected IP Portfolio

Three UK-registered trademarks — Baltersan 1584, Baltersan, and Omnia Mutantur, Nihil Interit — covering whisky, tartan, arts, and education (classes 41 & 45). Clear, defensible brand ownership across all commercial and charitable activities.

V

ESG & Social Impact

Investment in Baltersan 1584 directly funds the restoration of a listed Scottish heritage site, the creation of skilled local jobs through stonemasonry and crafts training, ecological restoration of the orchard and landscape, and arts and music education. A compelling ESG story with genuine, verifiable impact.

VI

Real Asset Backing

Unusually for a brand-stage investment, Baltersan 1584 is anchored by a real property asset — Baltersan Castle, Maybole, Ayrshire — owned outright by the group. Land, heritage building, and brand IP in a single structure. The castle grounds include a historic mill and pond — the natural site for a future Baltersan distillery.

VII

Ultra-Rare XO Editions

A dedicated programme of 35+ year old single cask Scotch — ultra-rare, numbered, and positioned for prestige international markets. Asia and the Americas are the primary targets, where exceptional aged Scotch whisky commands prices and cultural cachet unavailable domestically. One bottle. One story. No compromise.

VIII

An Accessible 10-Year Expression

Premium single malt need not be exclusive to the few. A 10-year-old Baltersan 1584 — quality-led, honestly priced — would open the brand to a far wider audience: gift buyers, whisky newcomers, and everyday enthusiasts. Volume without compromise, anchored by the same provenance that defines every release.

⬥ What We Are Looking For

Spirits & Distilling

A distillery partner, independent bottler, or spirits group to co-develop future releases, scale the whisky programme, and potentially build the Baltersan distillery on the castle lands.

Heritage & Property

A heritage investor, property developer, or conservation-minded fund with appetite for a long-term project anchored by real land, listed buildings, and strong ESG credentials.

Brand & Lifestyle

A brand house, luxury lifestyle group, or Scotland-focused business with distribution reach — to scale the tartan, bespoke commissions, and merchandise internationally.

"We are not asking investors to believe in a dream. We are asking them to help build something that already exists — a brand, a castle, a community, and a legacy that has been 440 years in the making."

— Angelo, Laird of Baltersan

⬥ Near-Term Priorities

1

Castle Surveys & Stabilisation

Structural surveys, weatherproofing, and stabilisation to prevent further loss of the fabric — the essential first step before any restoration work can begin.

2

Visitor Pavilion

A temporary structure in front of the castle — welcoming visitors to the gardens, tasting the whisky, discovering the tartan, and attending craft workshops. Revenue-generating from day one.

3

Whisky Programme — Three Tiers

Three distinct product tiers: a 10-year-old accessible expression for broader market appeal; continued bespoke label commissions for private clients; and ultra-rare XO editions (35+ years) for international collectors and prestige export markets — particularly Asia and the Americas, where aged Scotch commands exceptional premiums.

4

Tartan & Brand Expansion

Grow the tartan product range, develop the bespoke label service internationally, and establish Baltersan 1584 as a recognised Scottish lifestyle brand beyond the UK.

⬥ The People Behind the Brand

Giuseppe Ovidi

Violin made by Angelo Ovidi

Trained under Maestro Rampini, 1990s

Angelo Ovidi

Laird of Baltersan · Founder, AOvidi Ltd

The Ovidi family has traded in wine and spirits for four generations — from Giuseppe Ovidi, wine merchant in the 1920s, to Angelo today. That lineage is not a marketing story. It is the foundation on which every cask selection is made.

In the 1990s Angelo trained as a violin maker under Maestro Claudio Rampini in Italy — a discipline of patience, precision, and total respect for materials. The same principles govern every Baltersan release. He also holds a personal licence under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.

Before Baltersan, Angelo was part of the team at Pisa University that helped bring the World Wide Web to life in the 1990s. From the birth of the internet to the birth of a whisky brand rooted in a 440-year-old castle: a life lived at the frontier.

The vision for the castle as a school of arts, music, stonemasonry, and traditional crafts is not abstract. It comes from a man who has learned a craft from a maestro — and who wants to create that same opportunity for the next generation in Maybole, Ayrshire.
